  Bethlehem Shepherd

The area to the east of the city is traditionally believed to be the area of the fields of the shepherds "keeping watch o'er their flocks by night."  Several churches have been built to commemorate this event.   Even today local shepherds can be seen tending their flocks in this same area (even on Christmas eve!).

Why BiblePlaces.com?

Better Photographs

Better than what is currently available in published works or websites.  All of the photographs on this website are from the 10-volume Pictorial Library of Bible Lands CD collection.

Instructive Captions

Archaeological discoveries are explained, historical and geographical details are made clear.  The captions are the product of years of living and instructing in the Holy Lands.

Link to Resources

BiblePlaces.com points you to Internet resources for studies in biblical backgrounds, archaeology, geography and history.  Links are provided to other websites on each page.

Lots of Graphics!

Why this website is the way it is:

If you have a dial-up Internet connection, you may notice that the pages load slowly.  The reason is that the pictures posted here are large, by web standards (400 pixels wide in most cases).

"Breaking the rules"

We believe that "breaking the rules" by having lots of large pictures is justified by the nature of this site - we tried thumbnails and they just weren't enjoyable to view!  And as so many of these pictures are not only good for teaching but beautiful as well, we want that to come across in this medium.

Using these Pictures

The pictures on this website are copyrighted and may be used only with permission.  Students may use the material on this site for school projects without permission.  Purchasers of the Pictorial Library of Bible Lands are granted liberal usage rights for the images for personal and educational purposes.  For more details, see copyright information.
